Korean Air Takes Flight into the Future with a Bold New Brand, Enhanced Dining Services and Luxurious Cabin Upgrades for a Premium Travel Experience

Wednesday, March 12, 2025

Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship carrier, has launched an extensive brand transformation, marking the first major update to its visual identity in over four decades. This significant redesign, revealed at a special event at Seoul Gimpo International Airport, includes a refreshed aircraft livery, a completely reworked dining experience, and improved cabin amenities, all aimed at positioning the airline as a modern leader in the competitive aviation industry.

A Fresh and Modern Visual Identity

The revamped branding represents a strategic shift toward a more contemporary aesthetic, while still retaining Korean Air’s iconic deep blue color. The airline’s renowned “Taegeuk” symbol, traditionally inspired by Korea’s culture and the dynamic motion of aircraft engines, has been streamlined with a modern, stylized design that enhances its visual appeal. Along with this, the wordmark “Korean” has been reimagined in a new, smooth font that adds sophistication and ties into the nation’s cultural elements.

As part of this update, Korean Air has abandoned the traditional cheatline, which has long been a staple of its aircraft design, opting instead for a smoother, flowing curve along the fuselage to modernize the aircraft’s silhouette. The new livery is enhanced with state-of-the-art paint technology, giving it a metallic shine that reflects the airline’s commitment to innovation.

The redesign is not limited to the airline’s visual identity; the integration of Asiana Airlines will see both carriers adopting this new branding by January 2027. While Asiana continues to operate independently until then, Korean Air will begin the repainting process across its fleet, with each aircraft requiring about two weeks for the full transformation.

Revolutionizing Inflight Dining

Korean Air is completely overhauling its inflight dining experience as part of the rebranding. In collaboration with top restaurants in Seoul, the airline has redesigned its menus to feature a sophisticated blend of international flavors and modern interpretations of classic dishes. Dishes such as Moroccan-spiced lamb chop, abalone with rice, and truffle mushroom bibimbap now take center stage in the airline’s premium cabins.

First-class and Prestige business class passengers will enjoy an enhanced fine-dining experience, featuring new porcelain tableware from Bernardaud, updated glassware, and meticulous crew training to ensure the highest standards of service. With the introduction of a six-course meal, down from the previous nine-course format, passengers will begin their meal with amuse bouche, followed by soup, salad, a main course, cheese, and dessert, offering a refined dining experience.

Korean Air is also reintroducing kimchi across all cabin classes, after initially hesitating due to concerns about its aroma in the confined space of an aircraft. Alongside kimchi, passengers will now have access to more contemporary options like walnut cranberry sandwiches and smoked salmon open-face sandwiches, catering to travelers seeking lighter fare during long-haul flights.

Enhanced Cabin Comfort and Service

Along with the revamped dining experience, Korean Air is making significant upgrades to its cabin offerings. The airline is introducing its Prestige Suites 2.0 on select routes, which promise to provide a more spacious and luxurious environment for business and first-class travelers. This enhanced cabin service includes new amenity kits featuring premium fragrances, signature bedding from Frette, and custom pajamas for first-class passengers.

The new service structure also includes detailed plating guides for the cabin crew, ensuring that every dish is presented to exacting standards. Additionally, flight attendants are receiving comprehensive training to adapt to the updated service approach, which requires more preparation time for items like amuse bouche, which can take up to 10 minutes to prepare perfectly.

Korean Air’s fleet modernization continues with retrofits to its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to add premium economy cabins, and the airline is also working to introduce inflight Wi-Fi across its fleet in the near future, helping it stay competitive with other global airlines.

Upgraded Airport Lounges and Global Expansion

Korean Air is also investing in its global network of airport lounges, starting with major hubs like Seoul Incheon, Los Angeles, and New York JFK. These redesigned lounges will feature a variety of upgraded amenities, including live cooking stations, cooked-to-order noodle bars, and fresh bakery items such as croissants, pizza, and desserts. The first redesigned lounge will open in August 2025, with additional lounges set to be completed by 2026.

The lounge upgrades will also include expanded spaces in Los Angeles and New York JFK, with both airports expected to double the size of their existing lounges by 2026. These changes are aimed at offering travelers a more comfortable and enjoyable pre-flight experience.

Strategic Focus on Global Markets

With over 55 percent of Korean Air’s customer base coming from international markets, the airline’s refreshed identity and upgraded services are designed to meet the evolving demands of its global customer base. As the carrier moves towards integrating Asiana Airlines in 2027, the new branding positions Korean Air to compete on the global stage with more modern offerings, ensuring that passengers experience luxury and convenience from check-in to landing.

Korean Air’s transformation is more than just an aesthetic change—it is a forward-thinking strategy to embrace new industry trends and meet the changing expectations of premium travelers. With its enhanced fleet, modernized services, and focus on innovation, Korean Air is reaffirming its place as a leading carrier for global travelers seeking a world-class experience.
